Greenpeace activists along with Indian movie star Amala Nagarjuna unfurl a large banner from the balcony of the Charminar in Hyderabad, India. This is hours after Minster of Environment and Forest Jayanthi Natarajan opened the United Nations summit on biodiversity in Hyderabad. The banner, displaying the Indian Prime Minister’s face read – Stop Coal Crimes – Save Indian Forests, demanding that the Indian Government halt all new coal mining in forest areas to conserve biodiversity. This protest is the latest in an ongoing campaign by Greenpeace urging the Indian Prime Minister to call moratorium on new coal allocations until a forest protection criteria is set up.
