Shoot: Protest against Proposed Coal Plant in Thailand
GP0STO3GB
Thai people of Pak Phanang river basin oppose Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand's (EGAT) plans to build a coal-fired power plant in the area. The community, which lies in Nakon Sri Thammarat province, relies on rich but fragile natural resources, which are threatened by the proposed plant. The province is one of the country's major food producers. Nearshore fishing, shrimp farming, bird nest collecting, and rice farming are the main source of livelihood of thousands of people in the province. Greenpeace stands in solidarity with the people's movement, calling on the Thai government to have political will and action and lead the country towards an energy revolution. The government must invest in renewable energy and put in place more energy efficiency systems.
